The purpose of this program is to fund projects that provide limited-resource, socially disadvantaged, and other traditionally underserved  producers of Priority Commodities with training, informational opportunities and assistance necessary to understand: the kind of risks addressed by existing and emerging risk management tools; the features and appropriate use of existing and emerging risk management tools; and how to make sound risk management decisions. Program: Non-Insurance Risk Management Program Partnerships
Agency: U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Risk Management Agency (RMA)

Seeking applications to support projects to fund the development of non-insurance risk management tools that will be utilized by agricultural producers to assist them in mitigating the risks inherent in agricultural production.
Applications are due by May 17, 2007.
Approximately $3 million is available to fund an undetermined number of partnerships. Colleges and universities are eligible to apply.

Program: Food Assistance and Nutrition Research Program
Agency: U.S. Department of Agriculture
Next Deadline: May 21, 2007
Program concentrates on the following priorities: economic incentives in food assistance programs, food assistance as a safety net and food choices and obesity. ERS anticipates funding about $2 million for competitive grants and cooperative agreements this fiscal year. There is also a Small Grants Program that seeks to stimulate new and innovative research on food assistance and nutrition issues and to broaden the participation of social science scholars in these issues.

Program: Supplemental and Alternative Crops Competitive Grants Program  FON: USDA-CSREES-OP-000709
Agency: U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA); Cooperative State Research, Education, And Extension Service (CSREES)
Seeking applications to supports the development of superior germplasm, establishment and extension of various methods of planting, cultivation, harvesting, processing, and transfer of such applied research from experimental sites to on farm practice as soon as practicable. FY 2007 funding will support Canola and Hesperaloe/Desert Crop research. Applications are due by May 28, 2007.
In Canola Research, approximately $765,000 is available to fund five awards. In Hesperaloe/Desert Crop Research, approximately $335,000 is available to fund one award. Colleges and Universities are eligible to apply.

Program: Rural Business-Cooperative Service

Rural Cooperative Development Program
Seeking applications that improve the economic condition of rural areas through cooperative development. Grant funds are provided for the establishment and operation of centers that have the expertise or who can contract out for the expertise to assist individuals or entities in the startup, expansion or operational improvement of cooperative businesses.
Applications are due by June 8, 2007. Approximately $3.5 million is available to support 18 awards. Colleges and universities are eligible to apply.

Program: Food Stamp Program Participation Grants
Agency: U.S. Department of Agriculture
Next Deadline: Jun 13, 2007
Farm Bill authorizes FNS to award $75,000 to state agencies, public health or educational entities, or private nonprofit entities such as community or faith-based organizations, food banks, or other emergency feeding organizations, to increase awareness of good nutrition among low-income population that is not already enrolled.
